FRACTURE
WHAT
Rooted in the concept of revelation—to uncover what lies within—our design takes inspiration from the geode, a natural form that conceals brilliance behind a rugged shell. The result: a sculptural museum where the crystalline interior is exposed through a dramatic fracture in its dark, monolithic steel exterior.
Set across from the Obama Presidential Center and Jackson Park, the museum becomes a spatial dialogue between solidity and fragility, mass and light. The idea of reflection, both literal and metaphorical, unfolds in a sunken water court, where a bold diagonal path cuts through the site—linking context, memory, and movement.
Through the juxtaposition of solid and void, and the interplay of opacity and transparency, Fracture embodies the tension and beauty of contrast—revealing architecture as an experience of both discovery and transformation.
